Susan Christiansen has been writing and producing music for the Ziggurat Ensemble since the production of Aquitania in 2001, including the music for Red Thread, which earned the L.A. Weekly's 2003 award for Best Musical Score. She received a BM in Music Composition and a BA in English Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and was awarded the Certificate in Film Scoring from the University of California, Los Angeles. She continued post-graduate study under Leonard Stein and Elmer Bernstein.
Also an orchestrator and conductor, Susan combines her literature and music background in creating dramatic musical works such as opera and other musical theater. She is the author of several published music titles, including a children's book on Music History, and produces music for digital media such as web-based audio, CD-ROMs and multimedia.
